I’ve been using the Xiaomi motion sensor for a few months now and I’m happy to share my experience.
First impression
The Xiaomi motion detector surprised me right away when I unpacked it: I did not imagine this motion detector from Xiaomi to be so small and compact. I am directly looking forward to the resulting opportunities: Thus, I now no longer have to look for the best possible hiding place, but can freely choose the most optimal position!
Unobtrusive design at a top price
Design
The design is chosen unobtrusive and simple, making it suitable for absolutely any place in the living area. The size is impressively small and has convinced me absolutely compared to motion detectors from other manufacturers (and my better half as well). The motion detector comes with a simple adhesive mounting option with a smart rotation joint. This also fits very well with the actual motion detector.
Installation
The motion detector from Xiaomi uses the Zigbee protocoll and can thus be easily and quickly integrated into many Zigbee-based systems.
The installation is done within a few minutes. First of all, the installation takes place at the desired location: In addition to the actual motion detector, there is also the adhesive mounting option with rotation joint, so that the motion detector can be easily moved to the desired final position after installation
Integration with Home Assistant is very simple and quickly done:
- Set the Conbee II in the detection mode
- Press the small button on the side of the motion detector once and the one blue LED will start flashing
- Within 3 seconds the motion detector is detected and can then be used
Functionality
The motion detector displays 3 sensors:
- Motion sensor
- Brightness sensor
- Battery sensor
The movement is detected very quickly and reliably transmitted to Home Assistant. Thus, an action can also be executed in a timely manner. The Xiaomi motion sensor also has an additional brightness sensor, which makes it possible, for example, to dim the strength of a lamp based on the ambient brightness.
The motion detector is currently 3 months in use with me and the battery still has 100% capacity. I will give you an update later on how the battery consumption is developing. I expect the battery to last easily 2 years.
Conclusion
My experience with the Xiaomi motion detector is extremely positive. I can recommend it without reservation. As I’ve mentioned a few times, I especially like the unobtrusive design! In terms of functionality, everything a motion detector must be able to do is available. And then there’s the price: unbeatable! Why this is important, I have described here !
