I have been using the Xiaomi Aqara water sensor for several months now and am happy to share my experiences. My main and most important experience with the Xiaomi sensors is relatively simple: easy installation, low battery consumption and no problems!
First impression
The Xiaomi Aqara water sensor comes in the usual small box. Unpacking is then also very easy and the small sensor is already in the hand. A little weight, very narrow and can therefore be well placed under the dishwasher or washing machine.
Can what he must!
Design
The design is not so important for the water sensor, unlike the motion sensor and window sensor. This is because it is nicely hidden. So hardly anyone ever gets to see him.
Installation
The Xiaomi water sensor uses the Zigbee protocol and can be easily and quickly integrated into many Zigbee-based systems.
Installation is done within a few minutes and is very simple: just lay it down in the appropriate place. This must identify any slope or the most likely point of discharge. The sensor is not a moisture sensor, it really needs to come in contact with some water to trigger.
Integration with Home Assistant is then made very simple and fast:
- Set the Conbee II in the detection mode
- Press the small button on the side of the window sensor once and the one blue LED will start flashing
- Within 3 seconds the window sensor is detected and can be used directly
Functionality
The water sensor indicates two states:
- Dry
- Wet
I tested the sensor briefly, of course. I only had to put it very briefly in a small bowl with a little water and immediately the status changed.
The water sensor is currently 2 months in use with me and the battery still has 100% capacity. I will give you an update later on how the battery consumption is developing. I expect the battery to last easily over a year.
Conclusion
My experience with the Xiaomi Aqara water sensor has been nothing but positive, which is why I recommend it without reservation. Again, the price is unbeatable! Why this is important, I have described here !
