As you know, I already have the Xiaomi Aqara water sensor in operation, which is now the benchmark for my experience with the Eve Water Guard.
First impression
The first impression of the Eve Water Guard is: Oh, it’s big. Those who have already experienced the small compact sensors from Xiaomi Aqara will be a bit surprised due to the size. But for this it has an advantage: no batteries, but can be plugged directly into the wall socket. But what is usually more of a disadvantage for me is that the socket is often not in the right place, and with the Swiss triple sockets, all three plugs are often occupied at once.
Why not!!!
Design
The design is basically good and also beautiful. But of course, the Eve Water Guard on the socket is quite a part and of course still has a cable until you are at the place to be monitored. This means that the Eve Water Guard definitely can not be placed discreetly and inconspicuously.
Installation
The Eve Water Guard comes with a two-meter sensor cable. These two meters thus also define the location and the distance to the socket. There are extensions, but they are rather expensive.
Eve devices are integrated directly into Homekit. On the one hand, this is an advantage because it is child’s play. On the other hand, you also have to make sure that there is a Homekit center nearby. If not, it will be about 50 euros more expensive if you have to buy an Eve Extend.
Functionality
The Eve Water Guard can do what it has to do very well: namely, detect flowing water.
In this case, you have all the possibilities that Homekit offers: You can cut off the power to devices in the same room, alert someone or perform other actions.
Besides that, you also have other advantages, because the Eve Water Guard hangs directly from the wall socket:
- 100db siren
- Red alarm LED
All this is nice, but may be of little use if the Eve Water Guard is positioned in the basement or laundry room. In any case, the light is not immediately visible and the siren can be overheard or not heard in an emergency.
Conclusion
My experience with the Eve Water Guard has been good and it does what it is supposed to do. However, you should not forget the rather high acquisition costs: At around 80 euros per piece, these are not exactly small. But why the price is important in the end, I have described here !
