Experience with IKEA TRÅDFRI socket
IKEA TRÅDFRI socket is another basic component for any smart home. There are very many suppliers: IKEA TRÅDFRI variant is very cheap. But it also proves the smart socket in everyday life. What is the most important positive and negative quality:
- Positive: Extremely unobtrusive design
- Negative: Unfortunately no button on the device for manual switching
First impression
There’s really not much to say about a smart socket. Therefore only the following:
Cheap and functional: that’s what you expect from IKEA!
Design
IKEA design: nothing flashy, nothing unnecessary. That’s all you’d expect from a smart socket.
Installation
The smart IKEA TRÅDFRI socket is ready to use right away and does not require any installation. But if you want to use this also smart, then you need either the IKEA Home Smart App (There I can not help either, but is as far as I know very easy to connect) and for all those who have Home Assistant and the Conbee II in use, can connect and use this as follows via the Zigbee network:
- Launch Deconz in Home Assistant
- Start search
- Then press and hold the On/Off button on the power strip for five seconds
- The 3 sockets are displayed as “on/off plug-in
The socket is then visible as a separate entity in Home Assistant and can be controlled directly.
Functionality
The power socket lacks an on/off button. Unfortunately, this means that you always need your smartphone for switching or a smart speacker nearby. Otherwise, the smart socket simply does exactly what it has to do: Switch on and switch off.
Conclusion
My experience with the IKEA TRÅDFRI socket is positive. From the very beginning, everything worked as it should. No fancy-schmancy, no features, but simply a smart socket that can do everything and can be integrated into a Zigbee network. I never had a failure or problem, which is why I can recommend them without reservation. In the end, the price is also convincing: CHF 14.50 is a really good price!
