Hörmann garage door open smart
Until recently I had a Hörmann garage door and a smart home system, which unfortunately could not communicate with each other. This means: Always looking for the remote control or making your way to the button. Of course, this could not continue and I looked for ways to open the Hörmann garage door smart. In the end I came to a simple, cheap and very good solution. Which? You can find out here…
Initial situation
I have a garage door from Hörmann about 15 years old: the Supramatic E2 and could open and close it by means of pushbutton in the garage and by remote control, but I miss the certain comfort:
- Garage door could be opened with the remote control only from a maximum distance of 5-10 meters
- Turn on the exterior lighting automatically was not possible
- Status query to the gate was not possible. So I always had to physically look.
All in all, not exactly smart and convenient.
My search
First of all: If your Hörmann garage door is from 2010 or younger, then there is a pretty good chance that it is already smart or can be addressed via a standard interface. There are solutions for this directly from Hörmann or also Homematic IP. These can be used, but my solution can also be integrated more cost-effectively and easily. If your gate is older and therefore it is not possible, it needs another solution. You will find them in the next section.
My recommendation
My choice is Meross Smart WLAN Garage Door Opener fallen. The great advantage of this solution is that it uses the pushbutton interface. This means that with it (virtually) all garage doors (and not only Hörmann garage doors), which also have a physical button connected, can be operated with it. There is also a magnet to the device. With this you can then query the status of the garage door at any time. This is also connected to the Meross garage door opener and thus reliably displays the status of the garage door. The small and inconspicuous device can be mounted directly by the garage door opener and is hardly visible. The connection is established via the local WLAN and then accessed via the app (cloud). But the best part is the price: Only 40 CHF / EUR and there is also a HomeKit-enabled solution.
Installation
The installation is very simple and well described. Even with only a little manual skill, you can be through in an hour. I will put up a separate blog post in the near future about the installation and the integration with Home Assistant.
Conclusion
I can now open my Hörmann garage door smart and be able to achieve a long-awaited goal. The Meross garage door opener is today has now been in operation for a month: 100% reliable and therefore an absolute recommendation! Here again the link Meross Smart WLAN garage door opener.
