Home Assistant Motion Detector

Home Assistant Motion Detector

Introduction

Home Assistant motion detector: The motion detector performs an absolutely central function in every smart home. Thus, it assumes central tasks in the monitoring of the environment and indoor spaces. In addition, a motion detector makes it possible to dispense with tedious button pressing in the basement or in a darkened passageway. Last but not least, it also enables the automatic activation of a night light, thus increasing the safety of the residents. The following are the main features of a good smart motion detector:

  • Can be integrated into smart home systems such as Home Assistant
  • Attractive design
  • Light sensor, which allows the coordinated dimming of lighting

Provider

There are many different providers of smart motion detectors that are compatible with Home Assistant. On Smart-zilla.com you can find the complete overview of all already tested Home Assistant motion detectors. Below is a brief overview of these providers:

Xiaomi Aqara

The Xiaomi Aqara smart motion detector totally won me over from the start. The design and size are absolutely top. So far I have not seen a smaller or better looking motion detector. Since Xiaomi Aqara motion detector can be connected via Zigbee network, it is also very energy efficient to operate. I have been using the motion detectors for 1.5 years: I have never had to change the batteries. More information is available here: Experiences with the Xiaomi Aqara motion sensor

Lidl

With the LIDL Silvercrest motion detector you get a well-functioning device. The design is certainly not outstanding and thus the motion detector from LIDL cannot be placed so prominently. This motion detector can also be integrated via a Zigbee network and can therefore be operated with the LIDL Smart Home or any other Zigbee Smart Home. More information is available directly from LIDL.

Homematic IP

The motion detector from Homematic IP is not the best in terms of design, but it is much more attractive than the version from LIDL. The motion detector also does its job very reliably. However, Homematic IP is a proprietary system and accordingly it needs the control panel and other Homematic IP components for use. Due to the shape, this motion detector is also very suitable for mounting in corners or angles.
